WTB: Onchain phpBB.
We have the technology: ERC-6860 allows smart contracts to act as HTTP backends. There's a fork of Chromium that can browse these.
This forum should be onchain
Re: This forum should be onchain
Why should a forum be on chain?
I think there's a common error in the web3 community to put too many things on chain which don't need to be. The goal is to decentralize power, not to decentralize every single thing possible.
Forums are already pretty decentralized naturally. They don't have the super strong network effects that come with social media & social graphs, so forum admins only have as much power as the forum participants grant them, which usually isn't much, because everyone can just leave and hop onto another forum or create their own.
There might be problems to be solved with forums (inconsistent UI between forums, your reputation doesn't carry across forums, etc), but none of those are solved by putting the forum itself on a blockchain.
How would putting a forum on chain improve anything?

Re: This forum should be onchain
Agreed with leoglisic. As much as I'm a fan of putting things onchain, I'm even more of a fan of shipping useful products quickly. I think one day it could be an interesting idea to explore ways to put aspects of this forum onchain (like a reputation system, perhaps!) but we first need to focus on getting something useful out there that people actually use.
